Gudauri sits at 2,200 metres in the Greater Caucasus, roughly 120 km north of Tbilisi along the Georgian Military Highway — one of the oldest and most dramatic mountain routes in the region. A private transfer is the fastest and most comfortable way to cover this distance: around 2 hours in summer, 2.5–3 hours in winter conditions, door to door from any address in Tbilisi to your hotel in Gudauri.
Our drivers know the road year-round. In winter every vehicle runs on studded winter tyres with snow chains on board; in summer we stop at the scenic viewpoints so you can photograph the Caucasus without rushing. Fixed price, no surprises, English-speaking driver — confirmed before you book.
The Georgian Military Highway is not just transport infrastructure — it's a 200-year-old route that cuts through Georgia's most photographed landscapes.
UNESCO-listed ancient capital of Georgia. Jvari Monastery perches on the ridge above the Aragvi–Mtkvari confluence.
Bright turquoise water framed by forested hills.
17th-century castle complex on the reservoir shore.
Traditional mountain village famous for khinkali — Georgian dumplings.
Soviet-era mosaic overlook with a sweeping view over Devil's Valley. One of the most photographed spots in Georgia.
The highest point on the route. From here it's a short descent into Gudauri resort.
Gudauri ski resort runs from late November to early April, with best snow in January–March. The road is kept open year-round; heavy snowfall can cause short delays and we adjust departure times accordingly. All vehicles winter-equipped.
Jvari Pass fully open, wildflowers across the Bidara meadows, paragliding from Gudauri. The road continues north to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) and Gergeti Trinity Church — many guests extend to a same-day Kazbegi trip.
Quieter hotels, lower rates, excellent photography light. Check snow conditions in late October and April if you're not planning to ski. Ideal for scenic drives and hiking.
Three common ways to get from Tbilisi to Gudauri. Here's an honest comparison:
| Option | Price | Time | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marshrutka from Didube station | ~€3 | 3–3.5 hrs | Crowded minibus, no luggage guarantee, no ski equipment space, departs when full |
| Street taxi negotiated on the spot | €60–90 | 2–2.5 hrs | No insurance, usually no English, variable vehicle condition, price can change mid-trip |
| Elite Transfer private booked in advance | from €80 | ~2 hrs | Fixed price confirmed before booking · door-to-door · English driver · ski gear welcome · free water, wipes, WiFi · winter tyres |
For a ski trip with equipment, a family with luggage, or a late-night airport arrival, a private transfer is usually the only sensible option.
Instant confirmation · Winter tires · Fixed price · 24/7
